We invite you to an educational workshop for adults accompanying the exhibition “The Woman Question 1550–2025”. This time we will focus on one of the oldest and most fascinating motifs in art — images of Mother Goddesses.
The starting point will be photographic reproductions of Paleolithic Venuses — small figurines that have sparked researchers’ imaginations for millennia. We will also look at depictions of goddesses from ancient civilizations, such as Isis and Ishtar, and at contemporary works from the exhibition that draw inspiration from these ancient archetypes. In the theoretical part we will discuss how to interpret these clay objects — were they fertility symbols, amulets, or perhaps portraits? We will consider their meaning from the perspectives of history, archaeology and contemporary art history.
The meeting will be led by Tomasz Krajewski — educator at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, city guide and theatre pedagogue. He collaborates with the National Museum of Ethnography in Warsaw. Previously associated with the City Laboratory of the Museum of Warsaw; a graduate in theatre studies and history, and author of educational film projects. He is interested in art in urban space, the Vistula River and ceramics.
