Emotion Aid® - nervous system regulation in stressful situations
Kraków
We invite you to a workshop focused on regulating the nervous system in stressful situations using body‑based techniques. The starting point will be the Emotion Aid® procedure, a short (15–25 min) intervention derived from Somatic Experiencing®, helpful for coping with difficult emotions and reactions such as accelerated heart rate, rapid and shallow breathing, bodily tremors, disorientation, anxiety, agitation, panic, helplessness.
The workshop will allow you to learn and experience the Emotion Aid® procedure and various self‑regulation methods. The procedure is presented in 5 steps:
STEP 1 — ACTIVATION
- Description: In response to stress, the autonomic nervous system triggers sequences of sensations in the body and mobilizes energy.
- Scope: introduction to arousal levels of the ANS (the “polyvagal ladder” concept: D. Dana), personal ANS profile map, map of triggers and glimmers.
- Tools: ANS regulation through movement (bilateral stimulation, proprioception exercises).
STEP 2 — GROUNding
- Description: Under high stress we lose contact with the body; grounding helps return to the here and now and restore a sense of safety.
- Techniques: movement, senses, self‑touch; orienting response supporting neuroception of safety.
STEP 3 — REGULATION
- Description: Based on observing the “felt sense” through five channels of experience (SIBAM: sensations, images/senses, behaviors, affect/emotions, meanings).
- Practices: awareness of sensations, breathing techniques, self‑soothing, body awareness.
STEP 4 — DISCHARGE
- Description: Releasing energy accumulated in response to stress or threat.
- Techniques: mindfulness, breath, movement, neurogenic tremoring.
STEP 5 — CONNECTING TO RESOURCES
- Description: Resources are people, places, objects, memories or activities that evoke calming emotions and a sense of strength.
- Work: identifying internal and external resources (D. Dana resource map).
