We invite you to a scientific seminar on January 21, 2025, led by Dr. hab. Piotr Weiser!

The speaker will talk about Melchior Wańkowicz's stay in mandatory Palestine, his books about Jews, the writer's pro-Zionism, but also views that border on anti-Semitism. Wańkowicz was an excellent reporter, having traveled the country extensively, much of which he described. He also had ambitions to summarize the history of Jews in Europe and assess their prospects in Erec Israel. The context for these reflections will be the titular meeting. With the famous, or perhaps infamous, Stern, they immediately found a common language.

The seminar will take place on January 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the ŻIH room in the Blue Tower (pl. Bankowy 2, entrance from ul. Tłomackie) and will not be recorded.

Dr. hab. Piotr Weiser, university professor – cultural historian, PhD – Jagiellonian University (2010), habilitation – Silesian University (2018), working at ŻIH in various positions from volunteer from 1999–2013, 2020, concurrently at Jagiellonian University (2010–2018) and the Institute of Cultural and Religious Studies UKSW (2019–).
