What exactly does the annual program include? TECHNIQUE AND MOTOR DEVELOPMENT We will expand stability, mobility, and locomotion range, including work with inverted positions. We will use the Body-Mind Centering® approach, developing body awareness, proprioception, and kinesthesia, as well as working with reflexes and developmental patterns. In solo work and partnerships, we will embody the laws of physics: falling, sharing the center of gravity, listening to weight, inertia, acceleration, and disorientation in spherical space. IMPROVISATION AND COMPOSITION Through movement scores and real-time composition, we will learn to embrace the unknown. We will recognize impulses, expand the spectrum of attention, and allow relationality in practice to lead us to unknown, exciting places in dance. We will also use tools drawn from the practices of Barbara Dilley, Nina Martin, Mary Overlie, Lisa Nelson, Deborah Hay, and Nancy Stark Smith. EXPLORATION AND CURIOSITY Contact improvisation at its core is an experimental practice. We will nurture the ability to ask questions through movement – e.g., what happens when we direct attention to gravity, the Earth, and a partner? We will explore how questions and sensitivity can stimulate practice and quiet ambition. CONSENT CULTURE The classes will include work with touch and physical contact, grounding CI practice in the context of consent culture, mindfulness, and safety. Group work will also involve creating and exploring choreographic scores. As a group, we will decide on the potential performative nature of our practices. INSTRUCTOR Angelika Mizińska – I work with movement, contact improvisation, real-time improvisation, somatics, and body-self awareness. I am a certified somatic movement educator in the Body-Mind Centering® approach and continue learning in this approach within the BMC® Practitioner program. I am a member of BMCA (BMC® association). I graduated in dance and performing arts in the UK, Estonia, and the USA. I am a certified yoga teacher in the Ashtanga tradition (RYT-200). Using my skills in these areas, I lead educational processes focused on developing body awareness, communication in the nonviolent communication approach, and social skills. I co-create artistic processes in the field of expanded choreography. I trust the body and nature as the best teachers, supporting this relationship through continuous exploration and participation in training, workshops, and festivals.
