    About the event

We invite you on a journey to Mali – a fascinating country located in West Africa, at the southern edge of the Sahara. It is not a common tourist destination, which makes it all the more intriguing to us. Mali is a very diverse country, where almost everyone can find something for themselves, although now – due to the political situation – it is harder to travel there (and even harder to return...). So we will share our impressions and show what we especially remembered. In our journey, we can distinguish three quite different regions: - The Niger Valley – the third longest river and largest river basin in Africa. Along its banks and on the river itself, the traditional life of the inhabitants flourishes, full of exoticism and vitality. The Great Mosque in Djenné is the largest clay religious building and the largest free-standing sun-dried brick building in the world. - Mythical Timbuktu is a completely different world. Located on the edge of the Sahara, the city was in the 14th-15th centuries an intellectual and religious center of Islam and an important point on trade routes leading from the northern coasts of Africa to the Sahel and further to the Gulf of Guinea. To this day, camel caravans carrying blocks of salt mined in the middle of the desert come here. - The Land of the Dogon, situated on the Bandiagara escarpment in the eastern part of the country, delights with its picturesque scenery. The Dogon are a mysterious people who are believed to be visitors from Sirius. Here we will see ancient rock settlements, picturesque clay villages, and still preserved old traditions. We hope our memories will interest you. Warm regards, Joanna and Janusz Dąbrowscy Foundation "Góry 2000" --------------------------------------------- ŻOLIBORZANIE DISCOVER THE WORLD are meetings dedicated to lovers of holiday travels and globetrotters.
