Guy Van Leemput (b. 1967, Herentals, Belgium) studied mathematics and ceramics. He has been invited several times for an artist-in-residence at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China. His work has received awards and has been selected for group exhibitions in Belgium and other European countries, as well as in Japan, China and Australia. At the MINO International Ceramics Competition in 2014 his work “Big Anas” won the Bronze Award and is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art in Gifu, Japan. Guy was chosen as one of the Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artists in 2020. In 2021 he was recommended by the Michelangelo Foundation as a “Master Artisan”. In 2022 he was a keynote speaker at The Ceramics Congress, Australia.

Workshop description:
This 3-day workshop is an introduction to making wafer-thin bowls with flax-reinforced porcelain on an inflated balloon, and to making a shrinking support to hang the bowl in the kiln. You will learn the material, how to make very thin pieces, and several pattern-application techniques demonstrated by Guy Van Leemput. Each participant will make three bowls using one or more demonstrated techniques and will make swinging supports for firing. Only works from the first day will be fired. All materials, tools and vegetarian meals are provided each day.
