
We invite you to a week-long intensive ceramics course for beginners, as well as advanced ceramists who want to develop their existing skills and expand their workshop with new techniques. Class schedule: - DAY 1 MONDAY: - 11:00-17:30 Sculpting - discussion of the types, composition, and properties of ceramic masses - learning clay recovery/regeneration - methods of shaping ceramics (coil building) - methods of shaping ceramics (slab technique) - decorating ceramics (incised, relief, bas-relief) - DAY 2 TUESDAY: - 11:00-14:00 Sculpting - use of molds (plaster and others) - application of various sculpting techniques - 14:30-17:30 Casting - discussion of properties and preparation of slip - casting slip in plaster molds - coloring slip with pigments - masking techniques: wax mask - DAY 3 WEDNESDAY: - 11:00-14:00 Casting - decorating ceramics: - sgraffito - pastelage - roulettes - reserving - 14:30-17:30 Kiln - basic health and safety concepts - types of electric kilns and their equipment (including power supply, construction, purpose, maximum firing temperature) - operation and maintenance of the kiln - loading and unloading the kiln - firing curves - discussion of possible errors/unintended firing effects - DAY 4 THURSDAY: - 11:00-17:30 Decorating - Decorating ceramics using: - majolica technique - overglaze paints - applying decals - use of precious metals and their firing techniques (gold, platinum) - DAY 5 FRIDAY: - 10:00-16:00 Glazing - introduction to various glazing techniques - brush technique - glazing and engobing the created works - introduction to glazing techniques - pouring technique - dipping technique - spraying technique (compressor, pump) - use of auxiliary media - mistakes and successes - retouching (additional glazing, grinding) 📍 Workshop location: Ceramiq School of Ceramics Studio, ul.
