Zouk for Leaders — Monthly Workshop

'Zouk for Leaders' is a monthly workshop focused on developing you as a dancer so connecting with a partner feels clearer, more confident, and more creative. After many conversations with dancers in the scene, it’s clear that many followers advance their Zouk quickly by working on their own movement outside regular Zouk classes — through solo sessions, styling workshops, and other dance styles. This class helps leaders do the same.

We’ll explore solo movements through a Zouk lens:

• Footwork with flavour: glides, slides, moonwalks, heel turns, spins, and urban/street vibes
• Isolations, popping & waves: body flow, control, and clarity
• Dynamics & projection
• Musicality: playing with tempos, interpretation, accents, and build-ups
• Staccato vs flow: how and when to switch between them
• Zouk patterns (solo): breaking them down to add texture, movement quality, and personality

When you understand your own body better:

• Your dancing becomes more musical, confident, and creative
• Your lead gets clearer and calmer
• Connection feels more grounded and comfortable
• You can adapt more easily and allow your follower more space to play

We understand that leaders come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds, so some movements will feel and look better on some people than others. This class isn’t about creating clones or having everyone move the same way; instead, we’ll explore different options and help you discover what truly suits your body and feels good for you. 📍
