We invite you in February to the Academy of Traditional Dance for weekly Swedish dance workshops.
The aim of the workshops is to learn and master at a basic level the characteristic and most common steps in traditional Swedish dances such as hambo-polska, polska and slängpolska. These dances appear in many variants and are performed in pairs both as spinning versions and in processional forms to triple meters (3/4 and 3/8).
Partly the roots of these dances can be traced back to Poland — hence the frequently appearing name “polska”. The evolution of court dances made them faster and less solemn in Swedish folk tradition, with characteristic turns and improvisations.
During the workshops you will learn steps and rules applicable to non-stage forms of traditional dance performed at dances, so that dancing brings you as much pleasure and joy as possible. For people who already have some experience, the workshops can serve as dance practice or fitness classes.
The classes will include rhythmic exercises that will develop your sense of rhythm, motor coordination, strengthen physical fitness and strength, and give movements fluidity and lightness. The workshops are also an opportunity to meet new people and spend time in a pleasant atmosphere.
Level: beginner (+1)
Note: the workshops are dedicated to people who have mastered dancing to duple and triple rhythms at a basic level, that is, can spin in the first direction (counterclockwise).
