📅
On the 21st anniversary of Zdzisław Beksiński's death and three days before the 97th anniversary of his birth, we will meet at the Służew Cultural Center to remember this extraordinary artist during a special evening of recollections. This is another edition of the project “Beksiński — creator and neighbor”.
Our housing estate was still under construction when, in 1977, Zdzisław Beksiński, expropriated from his family home in Sanok, bought an apartment in Warsaw at 6 Sonata Street. He moved in here with his wife Zofia, as well as his mother and mother-in-law. Shortly after, he bought an apartment for his son Tomasz at 6 Mozart Street. The whole family settled in Służew nad Dolinką.
Zdzisław Beksiński — already our neighbor — was an artist recognized at home and abroad, although he avoided publicity: he limited travel and contacts with the media. He enlarged and redesigned the apartment; his studio had an unusual character, with a computer and a large amount of audio and video equipment, on which, among other things, he recorded his “diary” of work on his paintings.
For years, as part of the “Beksiński — creator and neighbor” project, the Służew Cultural Center and the Służew Residents’ Association (SMS) have been carrying out activities to popularize the artist’s work and document events from the Beksiński family history.
During the meeting we will watch the documentary film directed by Marcin Borchardt, “The Beksińskis. A Videophonic Album”, which shows the complicated relationships and artistic passions of Zdzisław Beksiński, his wife Zofia and son Tomasz, tracing the family’s fate from the move from Sanok to Warsaw in 1977. After the screening we invite you to a panel discussion with the participation of:
During the discussion the guests will also present previously unpublished archival materials.
