About the event

We invite you to the headquarters of the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute for a special film review inspired by the magazine “Ekrany” editorial’s ranking of the best films of 2025. This is a carefully selected set of titles from last year’s theatrical distribution, showcasing a wide spectrum of contemporary cinema: auteur visions from acclaimed filmmakers, bold debuts, and films varied in genre and cultural background.

The review opens with the screening of DISAPPEARANCES — a production combining elements of horror and black comedy. The program also includes genre films (including SINNERS), titles set in the past used in varied ways (HARVEST, THE BRUTALIST, THE DAZZLE OF DEATH’S DIAMOND), as well as Eva Victor’s directorial debut (SORRY, BABY).

The “Ekrany” ranking does not omit global cinema: Taiwanese LEFT-HANDED GIRL, Indian ALL SHADES OF LIGHT and Norwegian DREAMS OF LOVE offer different cultural and social experiences. The review will conclude with a screening of the Latvian animation FLOW — the Oscar winner and the editorial choice for best film of 2025 — followed by a meeting with members of the editorial staff.
