About the event

The Cultural Studies Student Association at Jagiellonian University and the Institute of Intercultural Studies at Jagiellonian University invite you to the National Student Scientific Conference “Rhythms of the World: Socio-cultural Dimensions of Music”, which will take place on 28 April 2026 at the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University (ul. Władysława Reymonta 4, 30-059 Kraków).



Music is an extremely important element of culture – it has accompanied humans since time immemorial. It reflects the world around us, conveys emotions and values – a medium of expression embedded in broader cultural and socio-political contexts.



Presentation topics may include issues such as:



  • Music as a tool for constructing identity
  • Musical subcultures
  • Music and empowerment
  • World Music
  • Globalization vs. musical locality
  • Authenticity in music
  • Folk music
  • Music in the context of power dynamics


Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate in the conference.



Submitting abstracts: until 31 March
Abstract length: up to 300 words
Presentation time: maximum 15 minutes
Language of presentation: Polish
Notification of acceptance or rejection of abstracts: by 5 April

Participation in the conference is free of charge. It is also possible to attend as a listener.
