An important theme of this year's jubilee edition of the Ad Libitum festival is various forms of presence – sound, musicians, memory, history. One of these forms is connected with presence through radio signal. On the second day of this year's edition, September 12, in the welcoming space of Hashtag Lab, the Ad Libitum festival will oscillate on the border of improvisation and radio art. 🎶 The evening will open with Radio Noise Duo – Tomasz Misiak and Marcin Olejniczak – with special guest Artur Rumiński. The guitarist, known for his work with Furia and Thaw, has been consistently exploring the boundaries of experimental and improvised music solo for several years. This time, he will perform with the versatile duo of theorists and sound artists Radio Noise Duo, who have been discovering various facets of radio art for years, often venturing into the paranormal fringes of radio culture. Misiak and Olejniczak have been running the excellent label Antenna Non Grata for years. One of the items in its catalog is the album by the duo that will close Friday evening on Barska Street – Tonic Train (Knut Aufermann and Sarah Washington). They are among the most important figures in contemporary radio art – tireless promoters of community radio (with their own Mobile Radio at the forefront), experiments with transmitting and modifying radio signals, microcasting, and new radio forms. As Tonic Train, they have been redefining the relationship between radio art, improvisation, field recording, and electronic music in concerts for years. 🎤 And in between... a solo performance by one of the stars of this year's festival. This is Lê Quan Ninh (born 1961) – a French percussionist of Vietnamese descent. At the age of 5, he began learning to play the piano, but as a teenager, he turned to percussion. At the age of 16, he entered the National Conservatory in Versailles. During this time, he discovered free jazz. In the 1980s, he collaborated with Daunik Lazro, Michel Doneda, Peter Kowald, and Butch Morris. He performs both improvised music and contemporary compositions with equal success.
