    About the event

The richness of Christmas traditions is reflected in the beautiful texts of Old Polish carols and pastorals. They contain not only biblical stories, but also their universal message, and the fragments of folk rituals emphasize the deep sensitivity and wisdom of ordinary people. Together with the music preserved in sources, the oldest of which date back to the 16th and 17th centuries, they create a complex image of the holidays celebrated in December. This unique heritage forms the basis for a performance that will evoke old, yet still living customs shaping Polish and European identity. From Old Polish canticles emerge scenes full of glory, but also images that inspire awe. In addition to the miraculous Annunciation, the extraordinary birth of Jesus, and the simple joy of the shepherds, one can also find descriptions of the expulsion of man from paradise, Herod's massacre of the innocents, or visions of Death bargaining with Satan. Among others, these themes will be depicted in colorful scenes that make up the spectacle. However, they will not overshadow the joyful holiday atmosphere – after all, the Savior has been born! Angels sing Gloria in excelsis Deo, and may even dance the mazur… MUSICAL DIRECTION: Karol Szwech SCRIPT AND DIRECTION: Jitka Stokalska MUSIC, MUSICAL ARRANGEMENT: Jacek Urbaniak SCENOGRAPHY: Marlena Skoneczko STAGE MOVEMENT: Joanna Drabik LIGHTING DIRECTION: Karolina Gębska PROJECTIONS: Marek Zamojski WORK ON THE WORD: Małgorzata Kaczmarska VOCAL ENSEMBLE PREPARATION: Karol Knapiński ASSISTANT DIRECTORS: Sławomir Jurczak, Agnieszka Kozłowska STAGE MANAGER: Wanda Karpińska ◆ PERFORMERS ◆ - PROLOGUS: Robert Gierlach - EVE: Agnieszka Kozłowska - ADAM: Rafał Żurek - MARY: Karolina Róża Kozłowska - ST.
