Two generations of musicians form an orchestra of 15 performers sharing the same surname. They carry out their own projects, from jazz through folk to classical music. They compose for other artists, create film music, arrangements, and orchestrations for musical shows. Many musicians in the family band have mastered several instruments, enabling spectacular changes on stage and rich arrangements, from classical sounds (piano, string quartet, woodwinds) to monumental big band arrangements enriched with modern electronics. There are also pieces maintained in the style of reconstructing source music. Mazurka and folk stylizations are juxtaposed with mazurkas by Fryderyk Chopin or Szymanowski woven into the carols. There is dance, a cappella choir, and a brass orchestra. Original arrangements provide opportunities for virtuoso solo performances. The Pospieszalski family shows that the best place to pass on living tradition is the family. The concert is an example of how, based on the heritage of national culture, universal values can be expressed in a contemporary language. In times of a crisis of values, a concert by a large family united by faith, passion, and respect for Polish customs takes on a meaningful message. The band has performed in Paris, Lyon, London, Brussels, Hanover, Hamburg, Vienna, Riga, Vilnius, Soleczniki, as well as in Ukraine and Belarus. Carols are a unique element characteristic of the culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Here, national, courtly, urban, and rural threads intertwine—religious and folkloric. No other Catholic country has created such a rich Christmas tradition. To this day, in Poland and the lands of the former Commonwealth, often in those national languages, carols, canticles, and pastorals are sung, nativity plays are staged, and the custom of walking with the turoń is maintained. The church and family tradition of celebrating Christmas has developed a huge number of songs and rituals throughout the territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. We draw on this heritage in the concert program.
