    About the event

    Two-day WenDo workshop



    WenDo, meaning the way of women (from English: women) and do (from Japanese: way), is psychological and physical self-defence. It includes work on strengthening self-confidence, reducing feelings of helplessness and developing an assertive attitude.

    It was created to give women and people socialized into that role the possibility to defend themselves and set boundaries here and now, to empower themselves and recognize their own decision-making in the world around them. WenDo offers solutions that allow participants to defend themselves immediately after the workshop, with an emphasis on violence prevention. The method is inclusive and takes into account the socio-cultural context and the perspective of gender.



    • Assertive posture and messages (elements of assertiveness training)
    • New communication tools
    • Recognizing your boundaries (both psychological and physical)
    • Setting your boundaries in public, professional and close relationships
    • Recognizing psychological violence
    • Responding to psychological and physical violence
    • Elements of physical self-defence, such as strikes, kicks and releases
    • The workshop is very practical — work with the body, voice, discussions and group exercises adapted to different abilities


    After the workshop you will most likely feel:



    • Greater sense of agency
    • Greater self-esteem
    • Greater sense of safety
    • A feeling of solidarity and sisterhood among people with similar experiences


    Instructor:
    Julia Borkowska — psychologist, psychotraumatologist and a trainer of self-defence and methods for preventing gender-based violence (assertiveness training and psychological self-defence).



    Who it's for:
    The workshops are intended for adult women and people socialized into the role of women (18+).

    ⏰ The classes total 12 hours: Saturday and Sunday 9:00–15:00 (with breaks during sessions).

    Please bring comfortable clothing. The centre has a kitchen where you can make coffee or tea.

    The centre is not adapted for people with mobility impairments.
