Guided hike along the most scenic trails in the northern part of the Kraków‑Częstochowa Upland (Jura).
05:30 - meeting in Warsaw, stop at Emilii Plater Street 47
07:30 - meeting in Łódź, BP station at Kątna Street 1 and breakfast break
We will begin exploring the Jura with a short walk in Podlesice, where we will climb Góra Zborów (Berkowa Góra, 467 m above sea level) — a rocky hill serving as a viewpoint and one of the major climbing areas in the Jura. We will take a break on Góra Zborów and return to the parking lot.
Drive to Ostrężnik, from where we will walk to Twardowski's Gate — a limestone rock bridge. The formation was named by the poet Zygmunt Krasiński.
Drive to the village of Zrębice: we will view the shingle‑roofed Church of St. Giles (1789) and set off on a further walk through the Sokole Góry reserve — a complex of limestone hills covered with beech forest. The highest rise is Puchacz (402 m above sea level). The reserve includes rich karst relief and numerous caves serving as bat refuges.
We will climb Biakło Hill (340 m above sea level) — a rocky ridge shaped like a comb, called Little Giewont or the Jurassic Giewont because of its resemblance to Giewont and the cross on its summit.
In Olsztyn we will visit the ruins of a 14th‑century castle built on a limestone rock with numerous natural caves; in the Middle Ages it was one of the largest Polish fortresses. Surviving elements include parts of the residential walls, towers (a cylindrical one — the stołp and a square one — the Starost's tower), fragments of walls of economic buildings, partially cellars and the foundations of a smithy and traces of bloomery furnaces.
After sightseeing, lunch (extra charge). The Jura's specialty is trout prepared in various ways.
Return: to Łódź approx. 20:00, to Warsaw approx. 21:45.
