About the event

20th International Scientific Conference — Iurisprudentia est... Legacy of great jurists

We warmly invite you to actively participate in the 20th Anniversary International Scientific Conference in the series “From the History of Law”, organized by the Student Scientific Circle of the History of State and Law of the Society of Listeners of Law at the Jagiellonian University under the patronage of the Chair of General History of State and Law UJ and the Department of the History of Polish Law UJ.

Theme: “Iurisprudentia est divinarum atque humanarum rerum notitia – legacy of great jurists”.

We encourage presentation of papers within the conference’s thematic scope, i.e. legal culture and tradition related to the activity of particular researchers, practitioners or academic centers across the centuries — from antiquity to modernity.

  • fragment of a biography of a selected jurist (researcher or practitioner)
  • academic or professional legal work in a given historical period
  • influence of a chosen jurist's thoughts or actions on the shape of the legal system
  • resolution of a legal controversy by a selected jurist
  • participation in work on codifying the law
  • (first) women at universities and in the legal professions
  • commemoration of a given jurist in contemporary times

📅
The conference will be held in hybrid mode on May 8–9, 2026: online via Microsoft Teams and in-person at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University (exact room/venue to be confirmed). If there is a large number of submissions, the organizers reserve the right to extend the conference by a third day.

  • 📝 Students, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral candidates: until February 22, 2026 — form
  • 📝 Expert presentations (persons holding an academic degree/title): until March 8, 2026 — form

Expert presentations are usually 30 minutes, other participants 20 minutes. Organizers reserve the right to select abstracts.
