Silent cinema — a black-and-white scene like from bygone times Family workshop | Andrzej Wajda Centre for Film
Step back into the era of old cinema, where over-the-top expression, gesture and wild humour matter without words. Together we will shoot and edit our own black-and-white scene in the style of silent film. Participants will take on roles as actors, directors and camera operators, discovering film techniques from before the sound era.
Lead instructor: Mateusz Hernik Cinematographer, director of photography for the internationally awarded film My Sister. He specializes in camera work in art cinema and also shoots commercials and commercial projects. He has experience working in demanding conditions: he spent several months in Africa working on fiction and documentary projects, often in hard-to-reach locations. In the workshop he shares a practical approach to the cinematographer’s work in documentary and fiction film, from choosing equipment to building relationships with actors and crew members.
