Annamaria lives alone with her son. Eight years ago Mario had an accident and remains completely paralyzed. The woman invites sex workers and encourages them to have sex in her son's room. What is the true purpose of this procedure? Did Jürgen from the escort agency satisfy her desires? And why did Annamaria set an infant's scream as a ringtone on her phone?
Clemens J. Setz - born in 1982 in Graz, lives in Vienna. He has been honored with many awards, including the prestigious Georg Büchner Prize. He is a versatile creator: he has six novels, three collections of stories, as well as plays, essays and poems to his name. He became famous with the novels Die Frequenzen (2009) and Indigo (2012), although many critics argue that his talent is most fully revealed in his short stories. He is interested in new technologies and artificial languages, drawing inspiration among others from the romantic tradition of horror and grotesque and from the classics of science fiction.
Pociecha rzeczy okrągłych is Setz’s first book published in Polish. In 2025 it was shortlisted for the Central European Literary Award Angelus.
