READING SEMINAR I "FREUD'S TECHNICAL WRITINGS" Based on J. Lacan's Seminar I, we will discuss the idea that language and speech are not transparent, unambiguous, and effective means of communication, but rather sources of misunderstanding and active tools in constituting human reality. Through the analysis of clinical cases of transference, repetition automatism, and the functioning of dreams, Lacan shows that the meaning of words always refers to other meanings, radically separating the signifier from the signified. Speaking creates for the subject a symbolic reality in which they embed their desires and emotional experiences. Lacan illustrates this with the example of Odysseus' friends turned into swine—pointing out that sounds become speech only when recognized as such by speaking beings—humans. The lecture will also allow us to look at how Lacan reinterpreted Freud, especially his understanding of transference, and how the concept, according to Hegel, can function as "the time of things."
