It consists of a combination of mindful movements, a meditative state of mind, and breathing techniques. The word 'qigong' comes from the Chinese words: 'qi,' which refers to the energy present in everything (universal life force), and 'gong,' which means acquired skill. Therefore, qigong translates to 'working with energy and developing skills.' Practically, qigong works by gathering and utilizing energy to enhance one's health, well-being, and vitality. What are the benefits of qigong? Qigong has recently become very popular worldwide due to its health benefits for practitioners: it can offer something different to everyone, depending on the purpose of the exercises. Most practitioners report feelings of calmness and relaxation, relief from pain, and a sense of increased energy and vitality. Moving along with even breathing helps blood circulation and massages internal organs, supports the functioning of the circulatory and immune systems. As an exercise that aligns awareness and attention with movement, qigong provides significant mental, emotional, and physical benefits. How can we use qigong exercises? More relaxation, less stress The internal nature of qigong exercises has a huge impact on calming the mind. Reducing stress and the relaxing nature of the exercises lead to improved sleep, relief from neck and shoulder pain, and lower blood pressure. It also helps alleviate depression and anxiety. Increased relaxation and sleep result in higher energy levels, helping combat fatigue and burnout. Inner anxiety decreases, and self-confidence increases. In everyday life, we encounter various scenarios that can cause stress. Weekly classes at Lorentz Courtyard are a great opportunity to focus on relaxation. It's amazing what just an hour of exercise can do! Physical fitness The characteristic opposites of qigong – moderate effort and active relaxation – build strong physical foundations. Repeating simple positions and movements is a good way to strengthen muscles, and the unique use of static positions also helps strengthen structural muscles, balance, and flexibility. It's a method to discover the inspiring depth of the human need for movement. Live more Qigong as a form of mindful movement supports our inner sensitivity, helping to open the mind and heart to the world. The ideal solution is to combine training at Lorentz Courtyard with visiting exhibitions and exploring the collections in the Main Building of the National Museum in Warsaw.
