We invite you to Edyta Olszewska's exhibition "I am piece of shit / I am cut from gods cloth," organized as part of Fringe Warsaw. 🎨 Opening: September 24, 2025, 6:00 PM 🕒 Opening Hours: - September 25-26 (Thu-Fri): 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM - September 27-28 (Sat-Sun): 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM 📍 Location: East of Art Foundation pop-up, ul. Sienna 89/2*, 00-809 Warsaw (*entrance from the gate, on the right) Details: https://maps.app.goo.gl/awvz3hSjVtQwLton6 The exhibition is a reflection on femininity and its shaping through a dualistic value system. It reveals two opposing worlds that have defined and simultaneously limited female identity for centuries. This is a reality in which shame cannot be easily suppressed by magical spells, incense, or rituals. It is a story about the impossibility of reconciling the roles of saint and prostitute, whose separation is still brutally present. In the world presented, shame does not disappear through rituals and symbols, nor can it be silenced by prayer or a holy image. The title, taken from a meme, ironically captures the internal conflict between self-hatred and the need for affirmation, revealing the absurdity and instability of female identity in the contemporary world. Edyta Olszewska graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. She is a painter and object maker. Her work combines Baroque tenebrism and opulence with elements drawn from pop culture. The artist often draws inspiration from Christian iconography and related symbols. She draws inspiration from, among other things, sacred art and contemporary internet culture. She combines extreme motifs, which she highlights with contrasting colors and the interplay of light and shadow. She often bases her research on representations of female archetypes, primarily the Virgin Mary. She is interested in opulence bordering on kitsch, and freely juxtaposes religious themes with eroticism. In her work, she sensitively connects seemingly disparate worlds. In 2023, Edyta Olszewska's first solo exhibitions took place: "Heat" at Art Agenda Nova in Krakow and "Passio" at Espacio Lavadero in Granada, Spain. The artist completed an artistic internship at Paulina Ołowska's studio, with whom she is currently collaborating on an exhibition devoted to the feminist prayer book, planned for 2026 at Studio Voltaire in London. She has participated in numerous projects and group exhibitions, including "Krzyczy ryczy" (Screams Roar) at Krakowska34 in Krakow, "Zdolność negotna / Negative Ability" at the Prześwit Gallery in Warsaw. She participated as a painter in a performance for the 45th Song Contest at the Capitol Theatre in Wrocław, and in a performance during the Maria Jarema Conference at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. She has received numerous awards in competitions, including the 2022 Leon Wyczółkowski Competition in Bydgoszcz and the 2023 Eibisch Award competition organized by the Franciszek Eibisch Foundation in Warsaw. She has participated in artistic residencies in Poland (including Willa Kadenówka, Rabka-Zdrój, 2023, 2024, and 2025) and abroad (Espacio Lavadero, Granada, Spain, 2023). In 2025, she participated in Cracow Art Week, presenting her work at Art Agenda Nova in the exhibition "Don't Fear the Shadows" and the "Y" exhibition at the Palace of Arts. This year, she also presented her work at the BWA Bielsko-Biała Gallery in the solo exhibition "Give Me A Light" and "Glitter on My Eyelids" at the Potocki Palace in Krakow.
