StrefaJazz: Stanisław Słowiński — Solo Violin Avantgarde
Venue: Strefa Nowa, ul. Kopernika 19 (entrance no. 3), Kraków
Date and time: March 28, 20:00
Solo Violin Avantgarde is the fifth original album by Stanisław Słowiński — one of the most sought-after violinists on the European jazz and crossover scene. The album continues the Solo EP released in 2017, which was met with acclaim from audiences and critics and supported by a concert tour. Seven original compositions combine two musical worlds important to the artist: classical music and jazz and improvised music.
The album is inspired by Zbigniew Seifert's pioneering release "Solo Violin". Solo Violin Avantgarde summarizes Słowiński's explorations in solo violin forms so far: references to works of past eras in the structure of the pieces, the search for freedom and expression through improvisation, and the use of the harmonic and textural language of Romanticism and Baroque as a starting point for creation. The release was issued by InfraArt Record Label.
Press:
- "Stanisław Jan Klemens Słowiński appears as another creative artist and a remarkable virtuoso of the jazz tradition and a worthy heir to Michał Urbaniak, Krzesimir Dębski, Zbigniew Seifert. Together with Adam Bałdych they now define violin playing in Polish and European jazz. I listen to his albums ("Landscapes Too Easy To Explain" and "Visions") with great delight — so neat, with ideas worthy of great masters, prepared and perfectly realized." — Dionizy Piątkowski
- "Without a doubt, we are dealing with a mature Stanisław Słowiński. A creator who is not afraid of classical music understood as a relic of the past, which certainly will not happen in his excellent mind and hands. An artist who draws abundantly from the jazz violin tradition, giving incredible possibilities to discover ever new means of expression. (...) Yes, Słowiński, I have the impression that I have been hearing your music for a long time, and I was waiting for someone to finally play it." — Piotr Bielawski [ether jazzu]
- "The music is an excellent example of modern Polish Jazz, which although melody based and well within the mainstream convention, manages to maintain a very high level of compositions and performances. It is soaked with typical Polish melancholy and Slavic melodic motifs, and of course focuses on the violin as the leading instrument, and as a result one can hardly find a more spiritually 'Polish Jazz' album than this one." — Adam Baruch (about the album "Landscapes Too Easy To Explain")
- "Słowiński continues the famous 'miracle on the Vistula' of Możdżer, namely he makes Poles want to listen to jazz. This is a record for everyone, so don't be afraid and enjoy this music! The Stanisław Słowiński Quintet has a sound that cannot be mistaken for any other." — Weronika Sraga
- "The performance left us speechless", "Definition of beauty in its pure form", "I can't think about anything else today, the performance hijacked my imagination" — these are just some of the audience reviews of the show "The Amber Tree" with original music by Stanisław Słowiński. — Iga Dzieciuchowicz
- "Stanisław Słowiński has built a very strong brand for himself, becoming one of the leading jazz violinists in Poland, while being a brilliant composer and excellent band leader. After an outstanding phonographic debut a year ago, we received an album even better, fuller and bolder..." — Robert Ratajczak (about the album "Visions | Between Love & Death")
- "Stanisław Słowiński is a violinist with an established position in the world of Polish jazz. In my musical consciousness he recorded an excellent album Landscapes Too Easy To Explain performed by his quintet and a solo EP simply titled Solo EP. Especially the latter recording, barely about fifteen minutes of music, drew my attention to Słowiński as an exceptionally talented instrumentalist and improviser... Visions Between Love & Death is another very interesting step on Stanisław Słowiński’s musical path of development." — Jędrzej Janicki [jazzpress]
