Bunkier Sztuki invites you to celebrate International Women's Day with a meeting featuring artists Iwona Demko and Karolina Jarzębak.
The event will present new works in the Bunkier Sztuki Collection acquired thanks to the community fundraiser “Wejdź do kolekcji”: “Pan Domu czyli Man in Action” by Iwona Demko and “One and only” by Karolina Jarzębak. It will also be a space to discuss art, social roles and the visibility of women in public space.
The meeting will be hosted by Alicja Zioło.
The conversation will serve as a starting point for a broader reflection on social and gender roles and on how contemporary art comments on and transforms these narratives.
A snack and activities in the Creation Station are planned for children during the meeting.
The event is part of the 5th edition of the “Miesiąc Krakowianek” program.
Iwona Demko
Iwona Demko is an established creator and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In her formally diverse work she consistently addresses feminist themes, deconstructing established ways of perceiving women and their roles in society. The selected work already provokes reflection by its title, drawing attention to roles assigned by history and culture. The male character – Action Man – is placed in a female context; an additional layer of meaning is given by the fact that the piece takes the form of a dollhouse.
Karolina Jarzębak
She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Faculty of Painting, in the studio of prof. Andrzej Bednarczyk. Co‑founder of Gallery 404 (2015–2017), part of the duo “Smutna Twarz”, founder of the Jak Zapomnieć gallery. Her work focuses on the reality and problems of the millennial generation: loneliness, fears and anxiety caused by the current political situation. She draws visual motifs from contemporary internet culture, treating it on a par with “real” culture, creating and reworking memes that serve as apt visual comments on current events.
Alicja Zioło
Author of the book “Krakowianki. Twarze polskiej herstorii”, a licensed Kraków guide, initiator of the “Chodźże na wycieczkę!” project, an independent activist caring for Kraków’s monuments and intangible heritage. A graduate of the Jagiellonian University, laureate of the Kraków – UNESCO City of Literature Award. In her guiding work she focuses on Kraków’s herstory.
After the meeting we invite you to collage workshops with Martyna Kielesińska.
