We invite you to a workshop with Helena Kallner – Working with eating disorders: a somatic approach. During the workshop, we will explore how integrating body and movement in Gestalt therapy sheds light on the dynamics of relationships and existence, and how a somatic perspective deepens our understanding of eating disorders. In the case of eating disorders, strict control over the body may be an attempt to create a background of personal and interpersonal stability. This can provide a sense of agency and certainty. However, the ability to feel oneself in relation to others – to kinesthetically resonate with the situation – becomes weakened. Participants will be invited to explore themselves through movement and in relation to others, discovering the felt sensations of their bodies – which differs from the observational and evaluative stance (body as object) that often characterizes the process of eating disorders. This exploration emphasizes the importance of feeling ourselves together with our clients, thus opening the way for them to inhabit their bodies more fully. The workshop is another introduction to Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy™ – an approach inspired by and based on the innovative work of Ruella Frank. It is also based on the findings of Helena’s doctoral thesis entitled "Forming form: how movement shapes psychotherapists’ practical knowledge." Participants will engage in an approach that emphasizes movement as a source of experience, language, and knowledge, and teaches practitioners how to develop bodily awareness and practical knowledge. LEADER: Helena Kallner, PhD in humanities, certified Gestalt psychotherapist by UKCP and EAGT. As a senior teacher and supervisor of Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy™, she conducts workshops and training programs worldwide. She lives in Stockholm, where she runs a private practice.
