Awarded the European Union Prize for Literature, writer Magdalena Parys returns with another political fiction tale — the final part of the Berlin trilogy. In a suspenseful plot she accurately diagnoses the problems and challenges confronting European societies.
Can a change of government in Germany result from a conspiracy? How does the spread of disinformation affect democratic processes? Do the media still have the power of the “fourth estate”?
The novel "Floren" is discussed with Magdalena Parys by Michał Nogaś.

The final — after "Magik" and "Książę" — novel of Magdalena Parys's Berlin trilogy.
When the chancellor of Germany, beloved by citizens, decides to retire, it seems her protégé will be the ideal successor. However, compromising information about the candidate's family past reaches the chancellor. Journalist Dagmara Bosch, former Berlin police chief Tschapieski and Commissioner Kowalski step onto the stage; cutting through a thicket of fake news, disinformation and secret files, they try to save the chancellor's good name and perhaps the future of Europe.
A gripping political-fiction story begins, in which Magdalena Parys outlines the fate of a continent torn by disputes and weakened by internal threats. Resurgent authoritarian tendencies and the rise of the extreme political scene form the backdrop for a cinematic search story. Truth mixes with fiction, great art with artificial intelligence, and the plot races across countries, centuries and great passions.
"Floren" is the concluding part of the Berlin trilogy, one of the most important novel series in 21st-century Polish literature. Like the previous volumes, "Magik" and "Książę", the new book is a separate whole and a closed intrigue.
"Magdalena Parys sees more. That’s a fact, not an opinion. Her earlier books in the Berlin trilogy anticipated reality and forecast what would come. Intelligence services? Unclear reckonings with the communist past? The rebirth of fascism? The collapse of the world we knew and thought was safe? Parys prophesied it all like a seer. In this book she does not let up: she warns against darkness, gives hints how to defend against the worst, shows the power hidden in words, and proves that in the 21st century the world is a system of connected vessels. One small fault is enough and everything will turn to dust."
