We invite you to a discussion about two books by Dr. Piotr Cichocki presenting the results of ethnographic research in northern Malawi! The conversation will feature the author, Dr. Karolina Marcinkowska, and Michał Wieczorek. 📅 Wednesday, 24.09.2025 ⏰ 6:00 PM 📍 Pracownia Duży Pokój, ul. Warecka 4/6, Warsaw (entrance from ul. Kubusia Puchatka) Books: - "Amplified Prayers. Sound in the socio-spiritual worlds of post-colony" (Słowo Obraz Terytoria) - "Vimbuza from northern Malawi. Embodied theories, practices of postcoloniality" (Wydawnictwa UW) These books propose a method of research in conditions of deep questioning of Western, colonial-inherited ways of narrating about Africans, portraying them, and analyzing their lives. The author experiments both in research and writing, which allows for challenging both colonial language and the unreflective gesture of total critique, striving to rediscover ethnography based on collaboration, respect, and mutual curiosity. Participants in the discussion: - Dr. Karolina Marcinkowska: researcher, animator, author of the book "Re-creating the past. The cult of tsumba in Madagascar" - Michał Wieczorek: music critic (Na obrzeżach, Bandcamp Daily, Radiowe Centrum Kultury Ludowej, Dwutygodnik, and others) 📢 ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION: - The venue is located on the ground floor, with street-level access, but requires climbing 3 steps to enter. - Guide dogs are welcome. - For questions or needs related to participation in the event, please contact: 📧 [email protected] 📞 602727185 💡 FUNDING: The project is co-financed by the City of Warsaw.
