We warmly invite you to an author meeting with Dr. Alicja Maliszewska-Polek, dedicated to her book "Lost Homeland. Life Stories Told by Members of the Ukrainian and Lemko Minorities in Poland." 📅 When: September 24, 2025 ⏰ Time: 6:30 PM 📍 Location: Ukrainian House, Zamenhofa 1, Warsaw Free admission – prior registration required: https://forms.gle/Fo3bbm4aM9gGaqTq9 The meeting will be hosted by Mariana Kril, a journalist for Polish Radio for Ukraine. We will discuss the fates of people who experienced the drama of displacement and were forced for years to hide their Ukrainian or Lemko identity in the so-called Recovered Territories. We will also hear how the oldest witnesses of history recall the Talerhof camp, Bereza Kartuska, and the "Vistula" operation, and why the longing for a lost homeland remains so vivid. About the book: Alicja Maliszewska-Polek's publication is a collection of autobiographical stories from members of the Ukrainian and Lemko minorities in Poland. The author gives voice to those who lived through the most challenging events of the 20th century – World War II, deportations, and forced resettlement in post-German territories. Her goal was to capture the emotions and experiences accompanying the narrators during pivotal moments in their lives. The value of the monograph is emphasized by the fact that it is based on autobiographical interviews conducted with the oldest generation – the last witnesses of those events. Thanks to the book, their memories and stories will be preserved. *Photo from the Archive of the Lemko Song and Dance Ensemble "Kyczera" – collections of Jerzy Starzyński.* Organizational information: Photographic documentation will be conducted during the meeting for reporting and promotional purposes.
