We invite you to the premiere of the Polish translation of the book "Tuning of the World" by Raymond Murray Schafer, translated by Krzysztof Marciniak. The event is part of the International Festival of Contemporary Music "Warsaw Autumn". Participants in the discussion about the book will include: - Krzysztof Marciniak (translator, musicologist, and acoustic ecologist) - Marta Michalska (historian, sound researcher, author of the book "Sounds, People, and Listening to the City. Selected Elements of Warsaw's Soundscape at the Turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries") - Jo Jurga (space designer, researcher, educator, and author of the books "Shelter from Noise" and "Earth Hotel") The discussion will be moderated by journalist and music critic Jan Błaszczak. "Tuning of the World" is the most important work in the oeuvre of composer Raymond Murray Schafer and a pioneering position in the tradition of humanistic sound studies. Although it is several decades old, it remains relevant. It continues to stimulate the sonic imagination of readers, addresses contemporary issues such as sound (and other) environmental pollution, and inspires a wide range of audiences: from composers, architects, visual artists, to researchers dealing with culture, cities, and ecology. The book is a testament to Schafer's original writing style, which freely moves between genres and literary styles. It is a bold artistic manifesto, sometimes a rigorous academic text, and at times an inspired philosophical work. It tells of the boundless soundscape surrounding humans, the historical transformations of the acoustic environment, its sensory exploration, critique, analysis, and conscious design. Schafer invites reflection on how we listen, what we hear, and how to make our sound environments more friendly. He makes our ears – though always open – begin to sensitively perceive reality and actively strive for change. The book was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the "Literature 2025" program. Patronage: - Glissando - Baltic Sea Cultural Center in Gdańsk
