Secrets of the Romincka Forest (Deer, Viaducts and the Emperor)
About the event
We invite you to a micro-expedition to the Romincka Forest — a land of deer and the historical mysteries of Emperor Wilhelm. During the trip we will visit the now-nonexistent village of Golubie, walk across old, impressive railway viaducts, learn about the history of the Gołdap spa, and look into former Luftwaffe bunkers. We will also stand at the tripoint in Wisztyniec — one of the coldest places in our country.

PROGRAM
DAY 1 — 25.04.2026 (Saturday)
- Assembly: 25.04.2026 at 6:00 in front of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, in the parking lot opposite the entrance to Kinoteka. At 6:10 we will depart towards Wisztyniec. Return to Warsaw on Sunday at about 21:00.
- Wisztyniec — visiting the tripoint of the borders of Poland, Lithuania and Russia.
- Romincka Forest — a hiking walk along the “On the Trail” path, where we will look at the forest’s natural curiosities.
- Stańczyki — visiting the famous railway bridges and a short stop by the observation tower; a story about the “big explosion” from the interwar period.
- Golubie — a trail through the now-nonexistent settlement; a story about the history of German settlement in Masuria.
- Accommodation at a *** hotel in Gołdapi. Double rooms. Dinner.
DAY 2 — 26.04.2026 (Sunday)
- Breakfast and check-out from the hotel.
- Gołdap — a guided walk around the Gołdap graduation towers and a talk about the spa; then visiting the ruins of the former headquarters of the Luftwaffe High Command.
- Botkuny — visiting lesser-known, “wild” railway bridges from the former Gołdap–Żytkiejmy route.
- Wilhelm’s Trail — a walk through the Romincka Forest: Wilhelm’s stones placed during hunts and the remnants of tree avenues that once led to his palace. Start at the Boczki forester’s lodge (near the village of Budwiecie).
- Górne — visiting the ruins of the evangelical church.
- Departure for the return trip; on the route a c. 45-minute lunch break at a petrol station with a food hub. Return to Warsaw at about 21:00.
PRICE: 650 zł/person + the cost of entrance tickets to visited sites – 20 zł/person (group ticket; status as of 13.02.2026).
