Come with us to the old borderland! Wandering among Mazovian strongholds and forgotten medieval cemeteries, you will learn the stories of a rebellious governor, a valiant knight, a jealous prince and a holy pilgrim. We will also visit Przasnysz, once one of the largest towns in Mazovia.

PROGRAM:
- Meeting of participants: 12.04.2026 (Sunday), 7:00 AM at the parking lot in front of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw (parking in front of the Kinoteka cinema). We depart at 7:05; planned return to the meeting point around 8:00 PM.
- Castle of the Mazovian Princes in Ciechanów – a tour of the Gothic stronghold built by Prince Janusz I. You will learn the history of princely Mazovia – from the times of Konrad of Masovia to the deaths of the last Mazovian rulers, Stanisław and Janusz III, which sparked many rumors and legends.
- Tańsk Przedbory – a fortified settlement located in the marshy belt of the Orzyc River. Its earthwork was part of a network of fortifications defending Mazovia against raids by the Baltic Prussians. Here we will hear fascinating tales about Miecław and the Mazovian rebellion, and about Krystyna – a brilliant strategist who created a network of border forts protecting against northern invasions.
- Medieval burial ground in Tańsk – we will visit a cemetery with graves bordered by stone; we will explain what the latest research (including genetic studies) has contributed to attempts to unravel the mysteries of such burial sites.
- Note: we will be walking along field roads – comfortable footwear is recommended.
- Przasnysz – a walk through the historic part of the princely town (15th-century church, market square, Gothic-Renaissance monastery). Stories about the town’s history and Przasnysz legends.
- Lunch (optional, paid extra approx. 55 zł/person; detailed menu will be provided about 7 days before departure).
- Rostkowo – visit the sanctuary of St. Stanislaus Kostka. At his birthplace we will learn the story of the short life of Poland’s patron of children and youth, including the tale of his famous pilgrimage to Rome.
