How does a sewing machine work? How do you thread a needle? Which stitches should you use for your project? You’ll learn all this during the first session of the Saturday Sewing series at SDK. Or maybe you already sew simple items and want to make an artistic postcard? Come and see that sewing isn’t a secret art!
12.00–14.00 / Sewing in Colour
Welcome the first breath of spring with a handmade bag! We invite beginners to these sewing workshops where we’ll demystify the sewing machine and create a stylish, eco-friendly shopping bag in cheerful floral patterns. It’s a perfect opportunity to take your first steps in sewing and leave the class with a finished, practical accessory for spring walks. We provide all necessary supplies, but we also encourage you to bring your own favourite fabrics you’d like to give new life to in a zero-waste spirit.
- Instructor: Agnieszka Stefańska – has been interested in sewing since childhood; she received her first Łucznik machine from her parents, and her earliest works were created under the guidance of her grandmother, who was a seamstress. She is interested in sustainable fashion and the environmental impact of the clothing industry. She mainly sews from already existing materials and second-hand garments.
14.30–16.30 / We Sew a Spring–Holiday Card
During the workshop, inspired by spring waking up to life, we will design and sew small fabric pictures in postcard format. These small artistic projects make a great gift for a loved one or can be framed. Under the instructor’s supervision we will use sewing machines (no prior sewing skills required), and learn various techniques for joining and using fabrics.
- Instructor: Renata Czapska – a lover of beautiful fabric. She runs workshops and courses for children and adults, showing how even plain canvas can be turned into unexpected projects. In classes she uses textiles that act art-therapeutically through texture, pattern and colour.
