Through the Photographer's Eye on Podskarbińska - Taida Tarabuła: Why do we need (UN)beautiful photos?
On the second Tuesday of January, we will meet with Taida Tarabuła - an author who has been searching for her place in the art of photography for many years. On the big screen on Podskarbińska, we will see photos from various stages of this search - from simple sentimental frames of the surrounding nature, through people, dogs, images from near and far travels, abstractions, rough documentation, to creations expressing either fleeting emotions or deeper reflections on the contemporary world and its condition.
Many people associate her with a very successful, bittersweet, award-winning project: 'Marriage in Polish,' co-created with Przemek Wierzchowski, which we will definitely discuss as well.
Taida began her photographic journey with a fascination for the beauty of nature; today she asks questions about the role of photography, including in self-therapy, expressing feelings, or commenting on difficult realities. She also tries to encourage listeners to notice around them other aspects of reality that often better describe true life, beyond the compulsive search for and capturing obvious beauty.
Taida Tarabuła
She started with nature photography, then noticed that there are also people, which was helped by her longtime friend, and for a while, husband, Przemek Wierzchowski. When Tosia appeared in her life, she began photographing dogs. Later, she opened up to many other topics and ways of expression.
Although she has a background in natural sciences and many years of academic experience, photography has become her first, beloved profession. For 18 years, she has been a member of ZPAF, and for not much shorter, she has been running her own company, whose activities are primarily related to photographic education. Currently, she co-organizes, among others, the 'Women 4 Women' workshops with FujiFilm Poland, photo-therapeutic 'Workshops with the Soul' with a friendly psychotherapist, and also gives guest lectures at the Department of Photography at the University of Warsaw. Earlier in her life, she worked as a photo editor at Życie Warszawy, an editor at the magazine 'Przyjaciel Pies,' and also as a photographer for the magazine 'Cztery Łapy.' She still collaborates with the Agency of Polish Photographers FORUM and with the 'Viva! Action for Animals' Foundation.
