A film full of absurdity and unexpected energy, a found footage film about a pivotal moment in Polish and world history.
Poland, 1981. A country on the brink of a developing revolution, with communist authorities ready to do anything to suppress it. General Wojciech Jaruzelski announces a historic decision on television: on December 13, martial law is introduced in the People's Republic of Poland. The next day, tanks roll into the streets. Soldiers take control of the cities, impose a curfew, and the army pacifies striking workers. State journalists try to discredit the opposition led by Lech Wałęsa, and members of Solidarity end up in prisons. Propaganda is in full swing. Rationing of goods begins, queues for toilet paper, and other absurd attempts to stifle the spirit of freedom and independence. Will Poland weep over its fate, or will it rather mock the farcical theater in which it plays the leading role?
'A Year in the Life of the Country' had its world premiere at the Krakow Film Festival, where it won the Silver Horn for the director of the film with high artistic values in the International Competition. The film was also selected for prestigious festivals such as the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and DOK Leipzig.
