After the exhibitions of contemporary images of Jesus the Merciful (2022) and the Annunciation (2023), this year the organizers invite you to view 20 contemporary representations of the scene of the Visitation of St. Elizabeth, painted by outstanding Polish contemporary artists.
'The exhibition of the mystery of the Visitation paintings is the third step in a twenty-one-year project gathering creators and intellectuals convinced of the need to revive sacred art in Poland,' says Dariusz Karłowicz, curator of the exhibition and initiator of the initiative. 'Expressing the teachings of Christ in the language of the next generation is the duty of those who must convey the Truth to the world. It is a kind of our collaboration in the work of the Incarnation. For Christianity, culture is not a luxury, but the air it breathes,' he adds.
At the exhibition, we will see artistic interpretations of the second joyful mystery by Professor Jarosław Modzelewski, Ignacy Czwartos, Professor Jacek Dłużewski from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, Wojciech Głogowski, Jacek Hajnoś OP, Dr. Krzysztof Klimek, Bogna Podbielska, Beata Stankiewicz, Professor Grzegorz Wnęk, and a representative of the young generation of artists – Ewa Czwartos. The creators were asked to paint two images depicting the second joyful mystery of the rosary: one in a format suitable for sacred space, and the other in a smaller size for home prayer.
Artists at the painting workshops, which were the first step in exploring the theme of the Visitation of St. Elizabeth, share their vision https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmCpNg5KJR0.
The organizers of the project are: Political Theology, the St. Nicholas Foundation, and the Institute of Culture of St. John Paul II from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome.
