A FEW WORDS ABOUT LOVE, DESIRE, AND PLEASURE BASED ON SELECTED QUOTES FROM LACAN'S TEACHINGS During the seminar, we will examine several selected quotes from Lacan's teachings that concern: love, desire, and pleasure. Why did we choose these? Because, on the one hand, they seem familiar, as they are within the realm of life experience, largely as objects of dreams or reasons for complaints. On the other hand, because Lacan, by referring to the unconscious, gives these concepts new, surprising definitions that shed more light on what troubles us in these matters and why, when seeking help, we might turn to psychoanalysis. We will try each time to start by elaborating on these terms in Freud's concept and then embed them in Lacan's teachings, based on selected, short quotes from his texts. For example, we will refer to why, from the perspective of psychoanalysis, it is impossible for humans as speaking beings to directly express any personal desire. Regarding love, we will examine how narcissistic demands for love and the idea that "love is always mutual" differ from Lacan's ultimate postulate of "a more worthy love." Finally, concerning pleasure, we will attempt to clarify Lacan's thesis, derived from Freud's works, about the absence of a sexual relationship. The sessions are designed as short presentations on the given topic by each of the instructors, referring both to Lacan's texts and illustrations from their own clinical practice. Before and after each session, time is allocated for questions and discussion.
