READING OF J. LACAN'S TEXT "THE DIRECTION OF THE TREATMENT AND THE PRINCIPLES OF ITS POWER", chapter V, points 1-3 A dream is not just a dream... So what is it? Freud noticed in dreams an enigmatic logic—not of fantastic images, but of words spoken by the analysand when freely associating around dream events. The dream is not the unconscious itself, but the royal road to it. Yet this road is a tangled and winding path of speech, chains of signifiers that allow us to glimpse what has been repressed. Where does the royal road of the dream lead? Freud saw at its end a desire—insatiable, indestructible, and unnameable, despite the paths of speech that must be traversed. Lacan, following Freud, placed the same desire at the center of psychoanalytic action—this desire gives it drive, direction, and purpose. How is desire connected to language—in its metaphors and metonymies? Why does it behave like a ferret? What does it have to do with dream images of salmon? We will try to find answers to these and other questions during our joint reading of the next fragment of the text: points 1-3 of chapter V "Desire should be taken literally".
