You are invited to the launch of Kornelia Sobczak’s book “Zośka and Rudy. On Love, Friendship and Poland”, devoted to a critical analysis of the school reading Kamienie na szaniec.
WHEN: March 6 (Friday), 6:00 PM
WHERE: Dom Spotkań z Historią, ul. Karowa 20
ADMISSION: free
The meeting will be led by Łukasz Mieszkowski — a historian specializing in social, medical and military history of Poland in the first half of the 20th century, deputy director of the Pilecki Institute for history in public space.
Sobczak attempts to seriously confront the legendary work by Aleksander Kamiński and reveal its role in building the myth surrounding the heroes of the national reader. The author addresses controversial threads connected to Kamienie na szaniec — suspicions of a homoerotic relationship between Zośka and Rudy and Bytnar’s affiliation with the far-right organization ONR. She also analyzes how the ideas from this school reading clash with nationalism, militarism and the cult of masculinity.
The book will be available for sale in February. Copies will be available for purchase and signing during the meeting.
