    About the event

#Colorful Commotion – Percussion Instruments / Jazz for Children

    A gathering for preschool-aged children.

    Leaders:

    • Magdalena Este – session leader, piano
    • Piotr “Jackson” Wolski – percussion instruments

Percussion instruments — commonly called “noisemakers.” They are usually made of wood, metal, or skin. The most popular include:

    • tambourine
    • maracas
    • bongos
    • conga
    • claves
    • guiro
    • shaker
    • cabasa
    • cowbell
    • block
    • darabuka
    • djembe
    • cajon
    • udu
    • darbuka
    • castanets
    • tabla
    • and many, many, many others!

Each of these instruments has its own sound. Percussion is widely used in pop, jazz, rock, folk, and even classical music. It is also used in ethnic music — African, Latin, Arabic, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean — as well as in contemporary music. Percussion instruments make our world colorful.

Magdalena Este – vocalist, pianist, composer. She values music’s remarkable ability to bring people together and enjoys sharing her passion and love of music. She has experience working with children: she has led music workshops and participated in theatre productions for children, as well as music education classes in kindergartens and primary schools. Co-author of the Jazz for Children Quartet project, she leads her own Magdalena Este Trio combining jazz with poetry; she is also a member of Bogdan Hołownia’s band.

Piotr “Jackson” Wolski – percussionist, composer and music producer, a renowned virtuoso of percussion instruments who has developed his unique musical language. He blends electronic music with refined percussion sounds. He is the leader of Wolski Band and the creator of the Tam Tam Academy percussion school. He works freely across genres such as world music, jazz and house, and has collaborated with artists including Stanisław Soyka and Tomasz Stańko.
