I invite you to a walk along the beautiful Foksal Street. A prewar, miniature aristocratic district — an enclave of magnificent residences and wealthy tenement houses that arose on the grounds of a former garden.
Prewar Foksal, renamed in the 1930s to Pierackiego Street, was in a way divided into two parts. Closer to the escarpment rose palaces belonging to the aristocracy; halfway down the street, up to Nowy Świat, the development consisted of luxurious tenement houses built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The oldest building on Foksal is the Zamoyski Palace, which closes the street's perspective from the escarpment. It is an exceptional monument — one of the few Warsaw residences from the second half of the 19th century to survive the war.
Foksal's tenement architecture consists of buildings with sculptural facades referring to medieval, Renaissance and neo-baroque architecture. We will be enchanted by more than one slender turret with a spired helmet, an expressive mascaron, a dragon, a pair of atlantes supporting a balcony and the colourful facing favored by Count Ksawery Branicki.
The owners, residents and regulars of this extraordinary enclave in the middle of the city are remarkable people — they will also be part of this tale.
During the walk we will learn, among others:
📅 Start: 22.02 (Sunday), 12:00 — ul. Foksal 18, on the corner with Nowy Świat.
Closing: in the garden of the Zamoyski Palace.
The walk will be led by KASIA — a licensed Warsaw guide.
☎️ Tel.: 505 023 782
💸 Participation in the walk is free, however a tip will be welcome after the walk.
We gently remind you that we put a lot of substantive and documentary work into preparing the walk so that it is as attractive for you as possible.
