About the event

Caprices of Fortune. A Walk Around the Saxon Garden Area.

During a walk through several centuries of Warsaw's history we'll discover the caprices of fortune that gave enormous fortunes to some and pushed others into oblivion. The protagonists of the stories are primarily people: imaginative, mad, powerful and, of course, wealthy. And also buildings — those that still exist and those whose traces must be sought on old maps of Warsaw.

During the walk we will learn, among other things:

  • who was not allowed into the stock exchange
  • how to break a cipher with a comb
  • which city was lost in a card game
  • what the “monument of folly” looked like
  • why a palace was hidden
  • who lost fortunes with style
  • who repaid a debt with a Matejko painting
  • how to make shopping the most enjoyable pastime
  • where the Polish Dior was
  • what gave Varsovians delight
  • who was the true visionary
  • why a palace was rotated
  • who was the fruit of sinful love
  • how to break in through a fuel tank
  • and many colorful stories about people and places related to our walk.
