We invite you to a seminar that fills the gap between Gestalt philosophy and clinical practice — combining the phenomenological method with the Gestalt focus on Contact and Self. We will learn to perceive psychopathology not as a deficit within the individual, but as a specific way of being in the world.

Key learning areas:

• Phenomenological method: description, bracketing, horizontal looking
• Gestalt perspective: understanding the “field”, the “contact boundary” and Self Theory in an aesthetic approach to psychopathology
• Lived dimensions: examining how time, space and embodiment change in different states of suffering

Instead of asking “why?”, we propose focusing on “how?”: how you experience your body, how you perceive time and space between you and another person.

What is phenomenological Gestalt psychopathology?
Phenomenology is the “science of experience” — the art of setting aside clinical prejudices to see the patient’s world from within. Gestalt psychopathology views suffering not as a broken mechanism but as a disturbance of the contact boundary between the individual and their environment.

Key pillars:

• Intentionality: how consciousness is directed toward the world
• The lived body: how suffering is felt in breathing rhythm, posture, tension
• Intersubjectivity: how sense of self is built through relations with others
• Gestalt perspective: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts

What you will discover:

• The power of “NOW FOR THE NEXT”: working with what emerges here-and-now
• Creative adaptation: symptoms as past adaptations
• Holism: seeing the person as an integrated whole — mind, body and world

The seminar will provide you with:

• Humanistic vocabulary: moving beyond DSM-5 and describing suffering relationally
• Enhanced clinical presence: developing the “therapist’s stance” to read the unspoken
• A philosophical dimension: references to Husserl, Merleau-Ponty and Perls
