About the event
Quantum Trio — one of the most original bands in Polish... jazz? jazz metal? With each album they escape standard categories. Combining double bass drum, polyrhythms, metal‑sounding saxophone riffs with refined compositions, they create their own aesthetic.
They will perform as part of the 9th edition of the From Bathing‑Suit Wearers to Hipsters Festival.
Quantum Trio — a Polish‑Chilean trio founded in 2012 in Rotterdam. The name is deliberate, clearly resonant in the group’s compositions. Component elements, inseparable and equal:
- Michał Jan Ciesielski (saxophones)
- Kamil Zawiślak (piano)
- Luis Mora Matus (drums)
The band was born from friendship, youthful dreams and musical exploration. The members met at Codarts Rotterdam – University for the Arts, where music from various parts of the world meets. Despite operating at a distance — between Rotterdam and Gdańsk — the band has played for years in an unchanged lineup. Quantum Trio is also notable for its instrumentation: a jazz trio without a bass is rare, which places additional challenges on each musician’s role and the form of the compositions. The music wanders between jazz, the avant‑garde, classical and contemporary music, while drawing from popular and progressive music. It can balance on the edge of silence, as well as strike with punk energy.
The From Bathing‑Suit Wearers to Hipsters Festival is an interdisciplinary artistic event presenting the key currents of Polish counterculture of the 20th century. Since 2017 it has brought closer the most important genres and aesthetics of Polish counterculture. Previous editions have featured e.g.: Osjan, Dezerter, Tymon Tymański, Pokahontaz, Nocna Zmiana Bluesa, Lotto, Nurt, Przemysław Dyakowski, Grupa w Składzie, Krzysztof Knittel, Maleo Reggae Rockers, 1984, Pornografia, Księżyc, RongWrong, Za 7 Górą, JUDE, Qou Vadis, Decadent Fun Club, Psychoformalina, T’ien lai, Wieloryb, Sza/Za, Wędrowiec, Chino, Der Mother, Oranżada, Naczynia, Ścianka, Hatti Vatti.
