Completely from scratch – calligraphy for the undecided
Where to start learning calligraphy? Which typeface should you choose? Will I like it? Am I suited for this (you are!)? Is ink different from writing fluid? A nib holder? A dip pen? Another blot? Don’t worry — we’re here to help and answer your questions. The class was created so you can try different tools and scripts, choose the one you enjoy working with most, get familiar with the most important tools, and dispel all doubts.
Completely from scratch calligraphy is an introduction to calligraphy. The class begins with a theoretical introduction and a demonstration of tools and selected scripts, then we move on to tests — getting to know a new tool and the rules for drawing letters from exemplars.

What will the classes look like? From precision to madness! In our lettering haven we will plunge into a sea of ink — the meditative rhythm of the nib, the rustle of paper, relaxation and playful word experiments. From dip pen to ruling pen.
What the program also includes:

- knowledge about supports and writing fluids
- inspirations and practical applications of calligraphy
- guidance for further independent practice
Who is it for?
- beginners who don’t know which script to start with
- those who have never held a calligraphy tool before
- no “talent” or art experience required
- small group allows for individual approach
- open to everyone aged 16 and above
What do you need for the class?
You don’t need any materials — everything is in our studio. You will receive a starter kit: a nib, a holder, ink, a set of exemplars and exercises with homework. After the class you can sit at your desk and continue writing right away.
Who will lead the class?
Aleksandra Ćwikowska — founder of Nice Letter Studio, professional calligrapher, president of the Scribendi Causa Association, certified conservator and restorer of works of art (specialization: paper and leather, manuscripts and modern and contemporary art), university lecturer. She contributes to preserving heritage and developing calligraphy by organizing original courses and calligraphy demonstrations.
