Is this a step toward a diagnosis? And if so, what next?
Children behave in many different ways, and we, as parents, wonder whether their behaviour is correct. We often hear that our child's behaviour is not normal and that something should be done about it — but what? What options do we have and will they definitely bring the desired results?
Behavioural disorders are a commonly known term describing deviations from the norm in a child's behaviour. By norm we mean the moral rules, customs and habits accepted in a given environment. This deviation can affect the child's ability to function properly in society. Depending on the severity it can lead to problems at school, at home and in relationships with others. Children with behavioural disorders often have difficulty adapting and are at risk of exclusion from their peer group, and in some cases may also be exposed to criminal behaviour. Early parental response can help overcome difficulties and lead to a normal, happy life.
