In these joyful hours, when members of the Polish Military Organization, legionnaires, and volunteers disarmed the occupiers in the barracks and on the city streets… "This is the greatest, most momentous transformation that can occur in the life of a nation. A transformation whose consequence should be to forget the past; to cross out old accounts with a great cross (...) And the time ahead of us is short, and only through joint effort can we decide on what territory, within what borders we will secure our freedom and how strongly we will stand on our feet before our neighbors from the east and west regain their strength and full voice." - Józef Piłsudski "It is impossible to convey the intoxication, the frenzy of joy that swept over the Polish people at that moment. After 120 years, the cordons vanished. 'They' are gone. Freedom! Independence! Unification! Our own state! Forever! Chaos? It doesn't matter. It will be fine. Everything will be, because we are free from leeches, thieves, robbers, from the cap with a pompom [Austrian military cap], we will govern ourselves. […] Whoever did not live through those short days, who did not go mad with joy with the whole nation at that time, will never experience the highest joy in their life." - Jędrzej Moraczewski As part of the 107th anniversary of Independence, I invite you to a walk during which we will discover the history of Warsaw from November 1918, its heroic struggle against the German occupier, and the selfless service at every post. There will be memories and accounts of those November days… we will learn: - What did Warsaw look like in October and November 1918? - Who was the victim of the clash at Al. Jerozolimskie? - What happened at the corner of Al. Jerozolimskie and Bracka? - Where did Józef Piłsudski live? - Where were the talks about forming the National Government held? - Who did not participate in the talks about forming the National Government? - Where was the German administration located? - How did November 10, 1918, pass? - Where did the fights with German soldiers take place? - Where did Governor General von Beseler reside? - Who and how escaped from Warsaw? 🗓️ We meet on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 12:00 at the eastern pavilion of the Warszawa-Śródmieście railway station next to the Wisława Szymborska Passage. Due to the area we will be moving through, the walk is planned for up to 2.5 hours. 💸 There is no fee for participating in the walk, but if you feel the guide deserves a tip (...) The walk will be led by a city guide from Warszawski Zaułek. You are warmly invited and see you there.
