Małopolski Gorge of the Vistula River and Nadwiśla Narrow-Gauge Railway (Solec, Piotrawin, Kaliszany, Poniatowa, Karczmiska) Join us for a one-day micro-expedition, during which we will discover the extraordinary history and breathtaking panoramas of the Małopolski Gorge of the Vistula River together. 📅 Meeting point: October 19, 2025 (Sunday), 7:00 AM, in front of the Palace of Culture and Science (parking lot near Kinoteka). - Solec nad Wisłą – a former town originally belonging to the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. It received city rights in the 14th century, although its origins date back to the 12th century. In the market square stands a beautiful wooden house with arcades from 1787, called the vicarage. From its garden, there is a panorama of the central part of the Małopolski Gorge of the Vistula River. We will also see the ruins of the Kazimierz Castle, which guarded the crossing over the Vistula River, and the parish church. - Piotrawin – a Gothic church dedicated to St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Thomas the Apostle. Since the Middle Ages, the village has been a well-known pilgrimage center, associated with the miracle of the resurrection of knight Piotr Strzemieńczyk. According to the story, Bishop Stanislaus bought the village from the knight, and when the heirs questioned the legality of the transaction, he resurrected Piotr to confirm the purchase. To commemorate the event, Bishop Zbigniew Oleśnicki founded a sanctuary with a Gothic church and chapel in 1440. - Kaliszany – the site of a former quarry, offering an impressive view of the Małopolski Gorge of the Vistula River. The excavation is nearly a kilometer long and about 40 meters high. The limestone rocks exposed on the slope reveal the geological history of the region. - Poniatowa – a lunch break at a charming restaurant located in the former railway station building. The cost of the meal is approximately 55 PLN per person (additional charge). The menu will be provided a week before the trip. - Nadwiśla Narrow-Gauge Railway – a train ride on the Poniatowa – Karczmiska route. - Karczmiska – a tour of the narrow-gauge railway station. Return: Departure towards Warsaw is planned for 5:00–5:30 PM, with arrival at the Palace of Culture and Science at 8:00–8:30 PM. 💰 Price: 249 PLN/person + optional meal cost.
