    About the event

One of the exhibits at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is a Greek vase depicting Philoctetes, abandoned by his companions, supporting his bandaged heel. Not long ago, he led ships to Troy; now, bitten by a snake, he loses his ability and social status. The figure of the ancient hero is the starting point for the creators of the performance to tell contemporary stories, simulating Philoctetes' experiences. We find ourselves in a bar in Sydney, where a young man is hugged by a woman he doesn't know, and this moment gives rise to "purely platonic services" now spread across the world. We land in Laura Winham's apartment, where she died of starvation, or in an aging Mercedes at the moment when the girl riding in it falls ill with an unknown, chronic disease that becomes a turning point in her life. How do we find ourselves in situations of lost agency or prestige? How do we cope with loneliness and weakness, not treating them as punishment or guilt, but as part of the human experience? The creators of the performance encourage a subversive way of thinking about "success" and speaking out loud about what is fragile, which can become a source of strength and build relationships based on empathy, care, solidarity, and courage. These are our most important assets in times of uncertainty. "Philocteteia. Return" is a co-production of TR Warszawa and Teatr 21. This is our second journey together—after the well-received "Family"—and, like the first, it is full of hope, deep reflection, and a sense of humor. ✨ DATE - November 30 (Sunday), 7 PM - December 2 (Tuesday), 7 PM - December 5 (Friday), 7 PM - December 6 (Saturday), 7 PM ⏰ DURATION - approx. 3 hours 🎟️ TICKETS - https://bilety.trwarszawa.pl/ 🌐 EVENT WEBSITE - https://trwarszawa.pl/program/filokteja-powrot/ -------------- concept: Justyna Lipko-Konieczna, Justyna Wielgus direction and choreography: Justyna Wielgus script* and dramaturgy: Justyna Lipko-Konieczna * text created based on actor improvisations and original writing. cast: - Łukasz Gawroński - Maja Kowalczyk - Daniel Krajewski - Aleksander Orliński - Sebastian Pawlak - Agnieszka Podsiadlik - Aleksandra Skotarek - Kamil Studnicki - Justyna Wasilewska costumes and set design: Wisła Nicieja video: Wojciech Kaniewski music: Zoi Michailova lighting direction: Sebastian Klim director's assistant: Wojciech Sobolewski stage manager: Monika Tuniewicz production managers: Aleksandra Szklarczyk (TR Warszawa), Paulina Uryszek (CSzW/Teatr21) background graphics: Wisła Nicieja -------------- The Center for Inclusive Art / Teatr 21 is a Social Institution of Culture, whose activities are co-financed by the City of Warsaw.
