Why invent horror when fear is everywhere? How can we be afraid of something we know doesn't exist? What do we really enjoy when we watch fictional worlds fall apart before our eyes, and how does this relate to our own sense of threat? "Laguna" grows out of a fascination with body horror as a genre that reflects our collective anxieties about corporeality. It draws on our weakness for images that simultaneously attract and repel us, causing our hearts to race and a tingling sensation around the neck. In "Laguna," dirty water trickles from the tap in a scenic spa, deck chairs resemble torture devices, and the mud that heals in sanatoriums but kills in cinema is like a bad omen. A total solar eclipse lasts long enough here to disrupt not only the laws of gravity and motor skills. The breakdown affects the plot and theatricality—dialogues and the structure of the performance decay. What remains is movement, and with it, the fundamental horror conflict between order and chaos. And the opportunity to test on your own skin the relationship between theatrical and muscular tension, and what might bring us relief when we gather to be afraid together for a brief moment. Please arrive on time. Latecomers will not be admitted after the performance begins.
